Top 10 Obsessions of 2010

2010 has been a very progressive year in obsessions, from TV shows, to electronics, to celebrity gossip. So, what are the top 10 of 2010?

1. iPhone

Apple once against has done it. Producing the iPhone4, which sold more than 1.7 million copies within the first three days of the sell date, has America once again obsessing over more than a cellphone, but a way of life.

2. Lindsay Lohan

Seeming to be who was “oh, so innocent”, The Parent Trap’s Lindsay Lohan has got Hollywood roaring. Lohan’s erratic, alchoholic and drug use behavior in 2010, eventually landed her in jail… for a short term that is. But, she’s back to rehab, where fans hope for Lohan’s fixation.

3. iPad

Apple came out with this new tablet, selling more than 300,000 in the first day. What’s so fascinating about the iPad? Many mixed reviews flood the internet. Some say the iPad is very convenient, but how convenient is it without any USB ports? This does not make it very easy to transfer information from the tablet to a desktop, or laptop. In addition, many viewers say “might as well get the iPhone.”

4. “Glee”

The hit show premiered at the end of 2009, as a “test run” to see if there would be enough viewers for the show. Of course there was! So, the show continued Season 1 and now Season 2 is currently on Tuesdays at 8 on Fox. With many talented actors and actresses, the show has become huge hit throughout the country.

5. “Jersey Shore”

Our favorite Guidos and Guidettes hit #5 in the obsessions list. Season 1, taking place in Seaside Heights, NJ, launched in December 2009. The new reality TV show turned out to be one of the highest rated shows throughout the country. At the end of Season 2, which was filmed in Miami, our stars started to launch their own popularity. For example “The Situation” was on “Dancing with the Stars” and JWoww recently launched her own tanning line. With Season 3 just around the corner, we all await what kind of drama is going to happen back at Seaside Heights, NJ.

6.  Facebook

The biggest social networking website took on 500,000,000 friends just this year. 25 year old, Mark Zuckerberg, creator of Facebook, is making it big and outbeat other social networking sites like Myspace. Facebook is a more secure way to connect with others.

7. Bed bugs

There’s no source confirming where the bed bug epidemic came from, but a possible theory is the international boom going on throughout last year and  this year. All we can hope is to protect ourselves from the infestation, especially when traveling.

8. Tea Party

The Tea Party has been in action for many years, but what is so prominent about this year? It is not positive if they are just targeting President Obama’s heritage, or if they have a truly valid argument.

9. Silly Bandz

We’ve all heard about them. The little rubber bands that are different shapes that take on the forms of sports, animals, fairies, etc. This is the biggest thing since Beanie Babies and Pokemon Cards. Schools have even restricted students from wearing and trading Silly Bandz. How much longer will these be popular? Some say they will burn out soon, but others say there will be a new addition to Silly Bandz.

10. Steig Larsson’s “The Girl”

Some compare this book series to Harry Potter, but is it really? In 2010, the most popular trilogy came out: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, “The Girl Who Played With Fire”, and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest”. Critics say that these books have preposterous plots and endless digressions. So, why are these books flooding the country? It is a compelling series for young adults, who seem to be interested in this twisted, weird plotted novels and movies.

UGGs… for Tom Brady.

If you’re from New England, you love the Patriots and Tom Brady, this may be a bit of a shock for you…

New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, has agreed to showcase UGGs for men. Surprising? Maybe. Or is he just walking in the shoes of Giselle?

Brady claims he wants to “branch out into something different”. Brady compares his new experience to Bruce Willis and his Vodka brand. Vodka is a bit more understandable because it is known and accepted that both men and women drink it.

Men’s UGGs may be a little too different for New Englanders. But, little does anyone know that UGGs originated from Australian surfers, who are mostly men. After they surfed, they would put UGGs on in order to keep their feet warm. Why is this different? First, Americans think that UGGs are strictly for winter, when really that was not their purpose at all. Second, in America, it’s womens fashion.

We’ll see what Brady fans have to say when it hits the billboards.
